Science and Technology MESA Day is an outreach event hosted by UCSB’s Los Ingenieros, National Society of Black Engineers, Society for the Advancement of Chicanos & Native Americans in Science, and MESA Programs. This outreach event has been bringing K-12 underrepresented and first generation students from the tri-county area for the past 15 years to UCSB.

S&T MESA Day will take place on Saturday, March 7th, welcoming over 545 students, counselors, parents, and teachers. A majority of the students that will visit the campus are first generation, low income, and/or underrepresented minority students. The primary goals of this outreach event is to provide information and resources to the students that showcases the importance of receiving a college education and how it can be used to achieve their dreams, as well as to expose the students to the significance of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) fields.

The event is comprised of two major components: competitions and workshops. Workshops and competitions are hosted and facilitated by UCSB student organizations, professional societies, professors, volunteers, and industry partners. These workshops involve hands on activities or demonstrations that engage the visiting students in learning about a particular S.T.E.M. field.
